"youngster’s birthday fundraiser"

My name is Ellis and for my 10th birthday party I planned a pool party for my class in school. As I usually have lots of presents from friends and family for my birthday, I thought it would be a good idea to donate some money instead of having presents this year. Read More

"what a journey!"

Since the Women's Institute's Calendar Girls, hundreds of charity calendars are released each year.  To make this work, we realised that we needed to be slightly different. Dads of children and young adults with life-limiting illnesses, and I am one of them, tend to hide their emotions.  Maybe this goes back to the Caveman days, but Dads believe that they need to be the rock when all around is falling apart.  Dads have a very different role to Mums, who are also amazingly strong.   Read More

"dads bare all"

The calendar came about after a conversation I had with one of our dads, Paul Fears, who is also the photographer on the project. It was a project that we both wanted to do but it was finding the right concept that was important.  Read More

"contractor tackles the paris marathon"

I first became aware of Tŷ Hafan about 12 years ago. The landlord of my local pub in Blackwood used to run fundraising events for the hospice.  Read More

"grab your trainers and sign up for the cardiff half!"

So for years I have toyed with the idea of attempting to ‘run’ the Cardiff Half Marathon and for years I have put it off with always a great excuse: too  busy, ‘there’s always next year’ attitude, getting pregnant and having Jack (that’s at least two years out, right?). Read More

Emma and Helen Cardiff Half Marathon

"join emma and helen for this year’s cardiff half"

In the lead up to the half marathon my days were as varied as discussing training plans, to deciding what colour dress a male participant should run in…I was hooked.  Read More

"tŷ hafan’s match of the day"

As well as caring for life-limited children and young people, Tŷ Hafan’s support extends to mums, dads, siblings and grandparents.  Our dads’ group continues to go from strength–to–strength, and last weekend , we held a Dads’ vs Staff football match in Bridgend. Read More

Georgie concludes our #DadsBareAll calendar by appearing in the month of December His beautiful four-year-old daughter Ailyla was referred to Tŷ Hafan at the end of last year. He said: "Despite her problems, we all adore her and we know we have to make the most every moment with her. She’s beautiful and we love her to bits.” Georgie has also suffered his own health problems. At the age of 11, his lower leg was amputated after he was diagnosed with bone cancer. He said: “It hasn’t stopped me doing anything I have wanted to achieve. I never felt comfortable wearing shorts or showing my leg, so it was quite liberating doing the calendar.”

We are often overwhelmed by the kindness of our supporters. One particular supporter, 10-year-old Ellis has melted all our hearts with his fundraising story. He said: “My name is Ellis and for my 10th birthday party I planned a pool party for my class in school. As I usually have lots of presents from friends and family for my birthday, I thought it would be a good idea to donate some money instead of having presents this year.” Thank you Ellis! Read why he decided to support Tŷ Hafan in today’s #FamilyFriday blog: https://www.tyhafan.org/our-blog/2016/10/21/youngsters-birthday-fundraiser/

Brave dads David and Matthew bared all for the month of November in our #dadsbareall calendar. David from Cardiff said: "I wanted to be involved to give a little bit back. Thank you Tŷ Hafan." Matthew from Pontypridd said: "I want to give something back to Tŷ Hafan...and some front!"

We still have some Gold Bond places up for grabs for next year's London Marathon. If you missed out on getting a place or fancy challenging yourself, why not run for Tŷ Hafan? The deadline for applications is 28 October. Please contact diane.stringer@tyhafan.org to apply.

Starters are served at Cornerstone Cardiff for Bartholomew Hawkins charity dinner in aid of Ty Hafan

October in our #dadsbareall calendar features dads Huw and Adrian. Huw from Barry (left) said: "I want to help Tŷ Hafan for all that they’ve done for us... and I can’t run marathons!” Adrian from Merthyr Tydfil (right) “I want to let other dads know that there is help and support out there.” Buy your copy from our shops or order online by visiting: http://tyhafanshop.org/product/dads-calendar/
