Ty Hafan

#family friday

my first few weeks

Hello, I’m Eleanor and I have just joined Tŷ Hafan as the new Grants and Trusts Fundraising Executive. My role in the charity is to apply to charitable trusts and foundations for money to support all the wonderful, vital work that happens for the children and their families that we support. I am unbelievably excited to be in post in my first specialised fundraising role working in such an incredible charity.

My first few weeks with the charity has been inspiring, joyful and jam-packed with information! I feel fortunate to be starting my role with Tŷ Hafan right as we celebrate 20 years of service and arrived just in time to attend the Staff Conference on Tŷ Hafan’s birthday at the end of my first week.

My background is in fundraising for arts organisations, so being new to this sector, the conference was a great opportunity to learn in more detail about children’s hospice care and the breadth of support services that Tŷ Hafan offers - as well as bond with my new colleagues and eat plenty of birthday cake. I also got to grips with the sheer size of the workforce across Wales gathering together in one place, something which became starkly clear when we danced a conga round the conference room at the end! I can already tell from my first few weeks that we have a lot of fun in Tŷ Hafan and I am looking forward immensely to sharing our stories and passion for the work we do with our amazing grant funders.

Following the conference, Ride to the Rugby and Chef’s Night Out, I’m feeling inspired by our creative and resilient supporters, and equally impressed with our Handcrafted initiative of upcycling donated materials into beautiful new things – being artsy myself, I’m looking forward to getting stuck in, in whatever way I can. With the 20th anniversary also being a key time of reflection for the charity, I’ve been left in awe by the Birdsong project recently unveiled in the hospice grounds, and was moved to hear an excerpt of this project at the conference.

With Spring now on the horizon, I’m also lucky enough to walk into the office every day past adorable new-born lambs in the farmer’s field next to the grounds! A great start to what will no-doubt be a fantastic first year for me with Tŷ Hafan.
