Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

We are aware that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is a time of concern for our families, supporters, volunteers and staff. Be assured that Tŷ Hafan is working tirelessly to respond to the needs of all involved with the charity. 

With information about the outbreak changing daily, we are following Public Health Wales and government advice, as keeping our families, staff and volunteers safe is our key priority. Government guidance is updated daily and we recommend you seek advice from this page for the most up-to-date information. Link to page here

Further information for our families, supporters, volunteers and staff is detailed below. 

 

Families: 

We remain committed to supporting families during these challenging times. Our services have had to change in line with the developing situation and Government guidance but we are finding alternative ways of offering this support. Because of the rapidly changing situation we are constantly reviewing how we offer this support to ensure it meets the greatest need.

We will keep in touch with families regularly to let you know what these changes mean, especially where a respite stay or short break stay was arranged before current government guidance was announced.  We have had to make the very difficult decision to only offer crisis care and end-of-life care at least until June, all families with a booked stay before June have been advised that this has been postponed. We appreciate that this may be disappointing but we are sure you understand that these decisions have been made to keep everyone as safe as possible.

If you feel you need support because of a crisis situation please do let one of the team know or contact your community nursing or social work team who can then talk to us.

If an admission is urgent and needs to be planned, we will get in touch beforehand and ask a few questions to check whether anyone in the family is developing any symptoms and whether the admission is safe for your child and others.

We want you to continue to feel as supported as possible and have been working creatively to put in place new ways of engaging with you so that Tŷ Hafan feels close by even if we are unable to provide your usual support. You’ll find lots of new content to support children and families on our social media channels and our family support team are trying to keep in phone and video contact with as many of you as possible.

Most of all, we want you to know that we are always here. Contact us if you have any questions, need some information or just want to chat, we’re here around the clock.

Supporters:

Thank you for all you do, and indeed, your continued support will be even more important to us over the coming weeks and months, either via fundraising, participating in an event or even donating to one of our shops. 

Given the circumstances we are currently reviewing our calendar of events. Our Events team will be in touch to let you know about any changes that need to be made.

Please note that our main office and hospice is closed to external visitors, this sadly includes our supporters too. 

While we are still very grateful for your donations (and rely on them), we ask that you do not drop donations off at the TŷHafan site in Sully.

Our teams are working hard from home, but it may take a little longer for them to get back to you right now. Rest assured your call/email is important to us and we'll be with you as soon as possible.

 

Volunteers:

We’re urging our volunteers to put their health first and to not feel under pressure to continue volunteering in this time of uncertainty. 

While you are all incredible and paramount in the running of the charity, we do not want you to feel anxious about putting yourself at risk of the infection.

Staff:

We have an amazing team at Ty Hafan who are determined to do all they can to ensure that we continue supporting children and families during this unsettling time. 

In line with government recommendations, we have strengthened existing measures to minimise the risk of infection. This includes asking members of non-care staff to work from home where this is possible, and restricting access to Ty Hafan’s buildings. 

Teams across  Hafan are working together to calmly and professionally rise to the challenges posed by the pandemic 

 

Our shops:

Sadly all of our shops across Wales are now closed until further notice and we are unable to accept donations of any kind while they are closed. However, as you can imagine we absolutely rely on donations at Ty Hafan and we would be extremely grateful if you could kindly keep hold of the goods until we reopen again.
